Deputy Foreign Minister George Kotsiras visits the Greek Community of Alexandria

In a significant gesture of diplomatic and cultural unity, Deputy Foreign Minister George Kotsiras visited Alexandria to mark the 20th anniversary of Patriarch Theodore’s enthronement. The event, symbolizing two decades of leadership over the Christian Orthodox faithful in Africa, also served as a beacon of hope and joy for the Greek Community in Alexandria. Mr. Kotsiras, accompanied by Greek officials, engaged in fruitful discussions with the community leaders discussing issues affecting the historic diaspora community.

The visit, which followed a weekend of jubilant celebrations, underscored the Greek government’s commitment to its diaspora communities. The Deputy Minister’s discussions at the Greek Community’s headquarters, accompanied by the Greek Ambassador to Egypt and the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, highlighted the ongoing support for the preservation and promotion of Hellenic culture in Egypt.

He was welcomed by the First Vice-President of the Greek Community Mr. Ioannis Papadopoulos, the Second Vice-President Mr. Nikolaos Kopelos, the Secretary General Mr. Nikolaos Katsimbris, the Community Commissioner Mr. Vasilios Zoues and the Director Mr. George Boulos. The meeting took place in the Hall of the Great Benefactors, where the figures of the late ancestors, the once glorious Egyptianism, dominate.

The meeting, described as warm and engaging, saw the Deputy Minister attentively consider the community’s needs, emphasizing the importance of sustaining Greek heritage in Alexandria and beyond. This visit reaffirms the enduring bonds between Greece and the historic Greek Community in Alexandria.
